$20m project led by Russian star Alexander Nevsky.

Andrzej Bartkowiak, the Polish-born director behind Doom, Cradle 2 The Grave and Exit Wounds, is in talks to direct Russian action star Alexander Nevsky in Legends Of Hercules which will start shooting later this year. Nevsky’s Hollywood Storm will produce the feature which is budgeted in the $20m region.

The film is focused around the mythical 12 labours of Hercules; Nevsky and John Bierly developed the story, George Saunders wrote the screenplay. The project has been in development since 2008 and bears no relation to a Brett Ratner-directed Hercules project which was recently announced.

Nevsky is a champion bodybuilder who has won the Mr Universe title twice. He has starred in and produced Russian theatrical hits such as Moscow Heat and Treasure Raiders. His latest film Magic Man co-starring Billy Zane, Armand Assante and Bai Ling was released last year.

Before his directing career, Bartkowiak was a prolific cinematographer with credits including Speed, Lethal Weapon 4, US Marshals and Falling Down.
